Here is a post to get you thinking creatively about methods to foster employee engagement.

The landscape of communication and employee engagement is shifting. New methods of social engagement are being released every day. Are you familiar with Twitter? Twitter, one of the multitude of rapidly growing social media sites is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

10 Downing Street

I was experimenting with twitter only to discover that 10 Downing Street, the residence and office of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom twitters. Here is a short sample.

@marioOlckers That would be a good point of discussion tomorrow http://snurl.com/23h1k

@jibubo It’s a meeting of world leaders committed to solving global issues in new and innovative ways http://snurl.com/23gve about 6 hours ago from twhirl in reply to jibubo

Because I subscribed to the 10 Downing Street Twitter, I received the following email message about 10 minutes later:

DowningStreet (DowningStreet) is now following your updates on Twitter.

I felt important and even told my 16 year old son that Downing Street is now following their father.

Think about this for a moment. If you are a leader or manager in an organization are you letting people in on what is going on and are you letting them know you are following them. We have so many innovative pathways to foster employee engagement.
