Engage With the Latest Employee Engagement Evidence

April 29, 2016 by David Zinger Leave a Comment

Engage for Success Does it Again!

I encourage you to read the latest employee engagement evidence report created by Engagement for Success. For example:

In the financial services sector, RBS has established links between employee engagement and business performance, customer service and employee well-being. The top 10% of business units compared to the bottom 10% by Engagement delivered twice the business performance, incurred half the voluntary turnover, had Customer Service scores 5% higher, and had absence rates 2% lower.

Employe Engagement: Why We Need to Treat Employees More Like Smart Phones

April 27, 2016 by David Zinger 2 Comments

Get Smart with Your Employees

Samsung Phone

Don’t get the title of this post wrong. I am not suggesting we depersonalize employees and treat them like objects. What I am suggesting is we treat employees as well as most of us treat our smart phone.

Here is what I mean:

  • We never get too far away from our phone.
  • We make ourselves available to our phone almost all the time.
  • We gaze at the screen with a powerful focus.
  • We recharge our phone every day.
  • We rely on our phone.

So here are the 5 employee engagement lessons:

  1. stay close to your employees
  2. make yourself available,
  3. really look at your employees many times throughout the day,
  4. charge employees up each day,
  5. rely on your employees.

David Zinger is an employee engagement speaker and expert who loves employee engagement and is also fond of his trusted, but somewhat aging, Samsung Galaxy s5.

What is the Place of Pizza in Employee Engagement?

April 11, 2016 by David Zinger 2 Comments

I have argued against the notion that employee engagement is about warm “fuzzies” and pizza parties.  I have changed my mind because of Claudio Ranieri’s management of the Leicester City Football Club.

Refresh Employee Engagement Today

April 5, 2016 by David Zinger Leave a Comment

This is refreshing

Here is a snippet from my latest post on 12 ways to refresh employee engagement:

12. Change your champions

Why is engagement so often housed or championed in HR, Organizational Learning and Development or Internal communications? Shake things up for the next year. Put finance, operations, safety, or marketing in charge of employee engagement. Break down the functional silos of engagement so that employee engagement becomes everybody’s business.

Befuddled: How are we ever going to manage employee engagement?

April 4, 2016 by David Zinger Leave a Comment

Barely Managing

Manager Feedback

Lou Solomon wrote a provocative and insightful post on the Harvard Business Review blog on March 9th that has me very concerned about managers ability to have a positive impact and influence on employee engagement, “Two-Thirds of Managers Are Uncomfortable Communicating with Employees.”  According to the survey many managers are uncomfortable

with becoming vulnerable, recognizing achievements, delivering the “company line,” giving clear directions, crediting others with having good ideas, speaking face to face, and having difficult feedback conversations in general.

I encourage you to read Lou’s post right now and start working on improving the comfort level of your managers for communication and feedback.

David Zinger is an employee engagement speaker and expert from Canada who was genuinely surprised to hear the high level of uncomfortableness managers have with feedback and communication.
