Play to your Strengths: Only 2 out of 10

April 5, 2006 by David Zinger 7 Comments

Click here to read a short post on playing to your strengths by Debbie at the Smart Lemming blog. She strongly stated her strengths of being people centered and an idea generator.

She also mentioned Marcus Buckingham’s strength focused movie coming out this summer. Click here to view a 2 minute preview to the movie. I will return to the strength of love of learning in the next post.

Are you going to be part of the 2 or part of the 8 in regards to using your strengths?

As a leader will you commit to helping the people you lead raise the number to greater than 20%?

I hope to be apart of the positive ratio. 😉 Thanks for the heads-up on the film. Looks sharp.

    Andy,

I visited your website. It looks like your are “perking” along. I love my coffee so I will keep visiting.

I think hope and action will ensure that you are part of the positive ratio and hopefully in the future that will be the 80%.

Thank you sir! We are what we think. It’s too bad that most people are innundated with bad self-hypnosis and deluged with mal thoughts from those that surround them. It is easy to get lost in this world. Thought by thought maybe we can be catalytic to those who fly too close to us hehe!

David – I am dedicated to focusing on my strengths, and helping my people work within their strengths zone. People who are “in the zone” are able to do far greater things that people who are “looking for the zone” in my experience. Marcus is absolutely right, and he has the research to back it up.

    Phil,
I knew you would work on strengths and help others. I appreciate the focus on the zone of strengths. We need to zone in and we need to recognize the area of our strengths.

    Hi David!

Peter Block has a book entitled “The Answer to How Is Yes” – I find it a wonderful read, as it emphasizes the need for good conversations in the workplace.

My wife also got me a book written by Gelb – “How to Think Like Da Vinci” – wonderful read as well…

Also, I’d really love to get your feedback on a couple of diagrams I created on continuous systems improvement – something I developed for my mom in the Philippines who’ll be using it for schools, and hopefully something I can use for my own work in the healthcare sector. The entries can be seen when you scroll down in my blog – for April 5 and 6.

    Thanks, David!

Btw, I did the Signature Strengths survey (I think I told you) – it’s a little long, but it was worth it.

    Take care!

I think Peter Block is a wonderful writer. I always liked his book: Flawless Consulting.

I have seen the book you mentioned but I will take another look at it.

The strength inventory is long and yet in another way it sometimes seems to take a lifetime to really know and integrate our strenghts into our work and relationships.

I appreciate and welcome all comments, excluding spam of course. I never even liked Spam as a luncheon meat.
