Employee Engagement Friday Factoid #18: A Big Heaping of Engagement

A big serving of employee engagement

DecisionWise quantified the impact on customer or guest perceptions.  Over a one-year period, restaurants ranking in the top 10 percent of locations for levels of employee engagement experienced nearly a 300 percent increase in guest satisfaction ratings.  Conversely, locations with employee engagement scores in the bottom 10 percent or lower experienced stagnant customer satisfaction ratings. Employee Engagement Friday Factoid #6: Canadian Wellbeing

Zinger Friday Factoid: Economics and Wellbeing in Canada

The second Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) composite report shows in the seventeen year period from 1994 to 2010, Canada’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by a robust 28.9% while our quality of life only improved by a very modest 5.7%. Further, it reveals Canadian wellbeing dropped by 24% between 2008 and 2010 and the decline in our wellbeing continues despite subsequent economic recovery. These facts indicate to me that economic development is not sustainable without wellbeing development. When I think of employee engagement, I always think of employee engagement for the benefit of all. These facts indicate that this is broken. We need to create a stronger bond between economics and wellbeing for the good of employees, individuals, families, organizations, the economy, and out country.

Employee Engagement Friday Factoid #5: Disengaged Leadership

Zinger Friday Factoid: Disengaged Leadership?

According to The Economist, 84% of senior leaders say disengaged employees are considered one of the biggest threats facing their business. However, only 12% of them reported doing anything about this problem.

Commentary

Another very disconcerting fact that leaves you with the sense that when a senior leader is faced with the threat of disengagement the most likely action is to do nothing. We need to step up to the conversations around disengagement and not practice ostrich-like leadership. When we fail to do something about a problem  we also become part of the disengaged problem.

Employee Engagement: Friday Factoid #2 – Energetic Well-being?

Zinger Friday  Factoid: Energetic Wellbing

While nearly half (47%) of the HR professionals surveyed said the health and wellbeing of their staff is good or excellent, this contrasts with employee research, which finds a large majority (80%) of workers score just 40% with regards to their health and energy. (Companies failing on employee wellbeing strategy – HR Magazine)

Commentary

Is there an unhealthy gap between perception and reality? I find it pathetic that 80% of workers score just 40% regarding their health and energy. Without health engagement in work cannot be sustained and without energy engagement can barely be started. We need to ensure that our workplaces become healthy and energetic for the benefit of all.
