Buying Happiness

March 11, 2008 by diehappy 1 Comment

You can’t buy happiness

Some people find it easy to be happy and others don’t, even though they have plenty of conditions for happiness. You can buy conditions for happiness, but you can’t buy happiness. It’s like playing tennis. you can’t buy the joy of playing tennis at a store. You can buy the ball and the racket, but you can’t buy the joy of playing…You have to cultivate happiness; you cannot buy it at the store. (Thich Nhat Hanh, The Art of Power, p.81)

    Hi David,
I love this quote – thanks for the reminder about not being able to buy happiness… it’s an internal thing (and something I keep trying to drum into my kids when they get down about not being able to afford something they really, really want).

Just wanted to let you know I am really enjoying Die Happy Today – keep up the great work!
