Do you hear the music at work?

January 16, 2008 by David Zinger 4 Comments

Employee Engagement Extra:

I saw this video posted at www.toddand.com. It was a commercial but showed an office group engaged in making music. The results of their engagement in this endeavour may not matter for organizational profit but if they can work like this together on the projects that do make a difference, what a difference it will make.

    David,

Wow! That’s clever. Actually, there’s something to be said for open workspaces, isn’t there?

    Thanks for sharing this.

They are talented. If you heard me do it all you might hear is breaking glass! Of course each person, even in very engaged teams, brings something different to the team.

    David,

The music thing is a terrific metaphor. Last year, we did a team-building session with a group of corporate attorneys. The closing activity? Brought in a friend who is an inner-city music teacher. He has a process that he uses to with different percussion instruments to get young people interested in music. Within a half hour, he had the attorneys making music, laughing, and convinced that they should start their own band.

    Great stuff.

    Hello David:

Thanks for this. Very engaging. Imagine the results they may get once they start to improvise 🙂
