Employee Engagement Gets Better With Age

April 7, 2008 by David Zinger Leave a Comment

It is no accident that the word age is embedded in engagement.

Sirota Survey Intelligence completed a recent assessment of employee engagement differences across generations. Except for employes age 63 and older the differences between employees’ levels of engagement in their work is fairly narrow around 77% to 80%.

The Traditionalist generation – ages 63 and older  – were the most engaged in their jobs with an engagement level of 84%. We neglect the value of older workers yet Siorta’s research is indicating that this is an overlooked resource of loyal and enthusiastic workers.

At 53 years of age, I can’t wait to be 63 and be even more engaged then I already am.

As Robert Browning said over a centry ago, Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be, The last of life, for which the first was made.
