Employee Engagement: Learn to Fly

July 31, 2009 by David Zinger 3 Comments

Has employee engagement taken flight where you work?

This is a very beautiful and powerful video – watching Blue Cranes learn to fly. The video was created by Christian Letruria. It was captivating to watch the struggle to take off, the grace when airborne, and the challenge of the first landing.

Oh my god David I am sitting at my desk with tears streaming down my face as I watch this, wiping my eyes on my tee shirt. I cannot thank you enough for this video. It seems to me it is such a perfect metaphor for some of the work I do with educators of at risk and vulnerable learners: this is the process of learning to do something very natural and also awkward and gravity-defying, and how they (the educators) are partners to these students–they help provide the confidence to their students that they can fly. I will use this video in my next talk.

Thank you for this deeply evocative video. It engaged me at many levels.

    Kirsten:
It is certainly well worth the watch. I appreciated watching the two birds together. We may fly alone but we learn together and perhaps learn to fly (when it makes sense) in formation.

Great video! Thanks for sharing with us David and Christian. A great metaphor for all of us including our clients when we are “learning to fly” in anything new!
    Best regards, Jasbindar
