Employee Engagement: The One Thing

July 26, 2009 by David Zinger 2 Comments

Do you engage with what is most important?

There is one thing that we all must do.

If we do everything else

but that one thing,

we will be lost.

And if we do nothing else

but that one thing,

we will have lived a glorious life.”

~ Rumi (1207-73) Persian poet and philosopher

……

Two Questions:

  1. What is your one thing?
  2. Are you doing it?

Yesterday’s one thing was learning about and doing stuff with RSS technology so I can read and absorb more cool stuff more easily. I did it. Today’s one thing was riding my bike with a good friend. 30 miles, felt like a headwind all the way, but a good ride and a great bacon sandwich. I’m feeling greedy so I think I’ll try to make one different thing the focus of each and every day. I hope that’s OK by Rumi.

    Doug,
Well done. I would think Rumi would be willing to ride along with you if he could. I forgot about this post as I pre-write my posts and received notification of your comment. Thank you for reminding me about my one thing. Tenacity in the actions I take today.
