Taking a liking to employee engagement
Let me tell you what this passenger was like. I was flying last week and across the aisle and one row behind me two woman talked with each other for the whole flight. They talked loud enough for the 3 rows in front of them and 3 rows behind them to listen to their conversation. What stood out for me was how frequently one of the woman used the word like. Like you know what I mean what that is like right?
Flying into engaging inspiration. It got me thinking about employee engagement and work. Okay, I admit it, everything gets me thinking about employee engagement but on this eavesdropping occasion I thought of a simple assessment for engagement I really like.
Like x 2 = Working Insights. To determine your unique relationship with work answer these two questions:
- What is work like for you?
- What do you like about work?
Like-squared. This like-squared exercise helps us get a new perspective on work by describing it as a metaphor. Is work like a leaky pen, a walk in the dark, a slide down a rainbow, etc? By asking what we like about work we can focus on what engages us and strengthens us and what really keeps us working.
Take a lick of like. Try it, you’ll like it. Like I hope you’ll do this exercise, really.
