Eddi Reader performs a powerful song questioning untapped strength on the TED website.
I have chosen this song as the theme song for this strength based leadership blog. Her powerful voice weaves with the lyrics to create a song of strength, energy, and caring. Click here to watch and listen to this very powerful and inspiring song.
Here are a few powerful questions embedded in the lyrics:
…what’s the use in strength and muscle if you only push and shove?
…its not what you’ve been given its what you do with what you’ve got
…its not how big your share is it is what you share
…what’s the use of two good ears if you can’t hear those you love?
I love the TED (Technology Education Design) website. I would rank it in the top 3 sites on the Internet. I encourage you to visit the site as it has an eclectic array of presentations from previous TED conferences.
Go catch the sun.
…its not what you’ve been given its what you do with what you’ve got
Yes.
I just discovered that we get one TV channel from Mexico (!). It’s called “Once” (11) and appears to be their version of PBS minus any US public TV programming. I watched a home improvement show that really underscores the above point: They used a corded drill, and sanded the wood by hand with the least amount of sandpaper. Despite the language barrier I got the message that it’s not what you use, it’s how.
Compare that with US/Canadian shows where they’re all about the cordless tools, power sanders, and the best and newest of everything. (Culminating in a series of shows on HGTV called “I Want That”.)
Side note to anyone who has seen Univision or Telemundo: Those networks aren’t remotely like what real Mexican TV looks like. It’s quite an adjustment to go from one to the other.
Thanks Ethan:
I guess I don’t need a belt sander!

This is a great song with powerful lyrics. I saw Eddi perform it a number of years ago and it gave me goose bumps! Very interesting & thought provoking blog.
Scott,
I would love to see her perform the song. I appreciate the version of the song you have on your website.
