Employee Engagement: Friday Factoid #3 – Thinking?

October 5, 2012 by David Zinger 1 Comment

Zinger Friday Factoid: Thinking?

David Rock offered us something to think about:  A study of 6,000 people conducted by the NeuroLeadership Group in collaboration with a large healthcare firm asked respondents questions about where, when, and how people did their best thinking. Only 10 percent said it happened at work.

Commentary

You almost don’t want to think about this and if you are at work it looks like you probably are not thinking all that well. In our age of knowledge workers not to have people thinking their best is the worst brain drain an organization can experience.  Determine how you and the people you work with can engage in better thinking today or you might move from a being a think tank to just plain tanking.

Employee Engagement: Friday Factoid #2 – Energetic Well-being?

September 28, 2012 by David Zinger Leave a Comment

Zinger Friday  Factoid: Energetic Wellbing

While nearly half (47%) of the HR professionals surveyed said the health and wellbeing of their staff is good or excellent, this contrasts with employee research, which finds a large majority (80%) of workers score just 40% with regards to their health and energy. (Companies failing on employee wellbeing strategy – HR Magazine)

Commentary

Is there an unhealthy gap between perception and reality? I find it pathetic that 80% of workers score just 40% regarding their health and energy. Without health engagement in work cannot be sustained and without energy engagement can barely be started. We need to ensure that our workplaces become healthy and energetic for the benefit of all.

Employee Engagement: Your Friday Factoid #1

September 21, 2012 by David Zinger Leave a Comment

Zinger Friday  Factoid

Hewitt reported a few years back, ” the analysis found that organizations with high engagement are 78 percent more productive and 40 percent more profitable than those organizations with low levels of engagement. Those with disengaged employees had an average profit loss of $8,000 to $10,000 profit each year for each disengaged employee.

Commentary

Employee engagement is so much more than a free lunch or a happy YouTube recruiting dance. It is big business and big in business when disengagement results in a profit loss of up to $10,000 for each disengaged employee. We must be mindful of our numbers and not let disengaged employees become numb to their impact. If you are a manager know that it may be well worth your effort and time to work at transforming a disengaged employee into an engaged employee.
