While writing a comment on employee enganement yesterday for the free E-BOOK , it just struck me that all the time we call the supervisor as managers the word literally means ( A person responsible for planning and directing the work of a group of individuals, monitoring their work, and taking corrective action when necessary. – someone who merely manages ) and hence the psychology of those called managers will remain such till the time we do something drastic about their title.
On one side we have for ages given them this title and on the other we expect them to go beyond the function of a full fledged engagement still calling them managers ( someone who merely manages )—-is it not weird !!!
I feel its time we change the title of a manager to challengers or any more appropriate one which is approprite to the times & thus suits their new role .
Sujata:
Well said about the term and expectations. I think we will have a hard time changing the name and the behavior but we could be challengers.
