Employee Engagement: Monday Morning Percolator #47

If you are a blogger and savvy with social media feel free to click away.

If you don’t write a blog or make use of social media to foster, communicate, enhance and create employee engagement, then read on.

Are you using social media (blogs, networks, netvibes, tumblr, drop.io, You Tube, RSS feeds, etc.) to enhance your employee engagement or customer engagement?

Walmart Blogs

The way I see it,  if Walmart is blogging – not the typical blogger you would think of, then I believe we are close to having blogs be the equivalent of  business cards and social networks being the equivalent of water cooler talk 15 years ago.

Wake up and realize that bloggers are not just a collection of teenagers, sitting in their pajamas, writing stream of consciousness drivel. By the way some of those teenagers are very savvy bloggers having a big impact…you could learn a lot from them.

If Walmart – the bastion of dry goods and tangible stuff – blogs, don’t you think it is time for you to pay attention? Walmart’s blog is customer focused but there is no reason why your blog can’t be internal or employee focused. And speaking of blogs…do your employees blog? If the employees blog don’t you want to know what they are saying? The time is now to enter the social media conversation. Once you start blogging a social network is only a click away.

This website is completely hosted on the WordPress blog platform. I adamantly believe we are rapidly changing websites from the blog being an extra to sites like this, that embrace dynamic content on the very first page of the site. I have been advocating blogging and social media for the past 3 years. I am 53 and I embrace blogging, new technologies, and creating networks.

My employee engagement network went from a Saturday afternoon idea to 130 members from around the world in 5 weeks. I firmly believe our network will become the premier spot for anyone interested in employee engagement. Don’t tell me the new social media tools don’t make a difference. By the way if you are not a member it is time to join!

Get some help if you don’t know where to begin. My partner, Mr. John Junson, and I provide blog development, design and digital coaching – how to enter and embrace the conversation economy. If you don’t know how to start or where to begin contact us at dzinger@shaw.ca.

My sister, Valerie Zinger, has just entered real estate in Ottawa. If you visit her website, www.valeriezinger.comyou will see that it is a blog. John and I offered her some design and coaching as we believed a WordPress blog site was the way to go in 2008. If you visit Valerie’s site you will meet my sister authentically and you can comment back to her right away. There is no hype and hyperbole or swooshing flash animation, you meet the real thing or the real Zing!

I don’t know about you but I want to buy or list a house with someone I can trust, someone I can get to know, and someone who is contemporary. Valerie’s blog lets me get to know her, she offers me added value, and I trust in it because it is her authentic voice not some slick copywriter putting words in her mouth. She has a picture with her dogs on her site because she loves those dogs not because somebody told her to do this.

Okay, enough ranting for a Monday.

If this post does not stimulate you to engage in blogs and social media, I bet I’ll see you involved more fully within 6 months to 2 years.

What are you waiting for…attention shoppers on aisle 4 we have an expert Walmart associate blogging about toasters!

Start blogging now or contact John Junson and David Zinger at  (dzinger@shaw.ca) to help you get started on making a difference in employee engagement with the use of the plethora of social media tools.
